We like to hear
the voices of
those that agree
with us,
and we think they
are just so wonderful
and full of wisdom’s charm.
But we are truly wise
and fully open
when we can listen to
those who do not
give us the voice
of assent, but dissent,
sometimes striking
cords of rancour
in us as we examine
our own thinking
and values from
the edge of
another view.
To be a wise person
is not always about
being right but seeing
the possibility that
we could be wrong.
